COLLEGE NOTEBOOK: Banks records first collegiate points
Karlie Banks, Utah State Basketball
A 2024 Sandpoint High graduate, Karlie recorded five points (2-5 FG, 1-2 3P), the first five of her career, and played 11 minutes total in a 85-57 loss to Northern Colorado this past Sunday. So far this season, she has also clocked 25 minutes and hauled in four rebounds (two offensive) for Utah State, which is 1-3 and travels to Colorado tonight and to the University of Nebraska Omaha on Nov. 26.
Helena White, Napa Valley College Volleyball
Helena, a 2024 Priest River High graduate, recorded 12 kills, a career-high five aces, and six digs in a 3-2 loss to Mendocino on Nov. 8 and seven kills and five digs in a 3-0 win over Contra Costa this past Friday. Unless the 10-14 Storm receive an at-large bid to the 3C2A NorCal Regional tournament, Helena will have officially registered 115 kills (1.6 per set), 13 aces, 71 digs and three block assists across 72 sets in her first year with Napa Valley.
Markynn Pluid, Snow College Basketball
A 2024 Bonners Ferry High graduate, Markynn recorded two points (2-2 FT), a steal and a rebound across eight minutes in a 93-75 win over Central Wyoming College on the Nov. 13 and three points (1-3 FG, 1-1 FT) and two rebounds across six minutes in a 71-26 win over Central Wyoming College on Nov. 15. With the wins, Snow College, which is 7-0, won the Western Wyoming Classic and Eagle Classic tournaments. The Lady Badgers return to action this Thursday for the New Mexico Junior College Tournament set to be held at the Caster Activity Center in Hobbs, N.M.
Aubree Lane, Spokane CC Volleyball
Aubree, a 2024 Sandpoint High graduate, recently received NWAC East Region Second Team honors for her efforts on the court this season. She was one of four freshman named to the Second Team — two of the other freshman were Idaho high school graduates: Big Bend's Devry Laush (Sugar Salem) and Treasure Valley's Karly Clark (Cole Valley Christian).
Evan Dickinson, Walla Walla CC Soccer
Despite a 1-0 loss to Peninsula in the NWAC semifinals, Evan finished out his career as an NWAC Soccer All-Star, receiving East Region Co-Defensive Player of the Year and First Team Defender honors. Overall, Evan started 42 straight games for 15-3-4 Warriors over the last two seasons and compiled three goals, two assists and 16 shots.
Jerzie Bair, College of Idaho Volleyball
A 2019 Bonners Ferry High graduate, Jerzie contributed in all three of the Lady Yotes' Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament games. She recorded three block assists in a 3-0 play-in win over Walla Walla on Nov. 12, and on Nov. 15, three kills, two digs and two block assists in a 3-0 quarterfinal win over Bushnell, and three kills and two block assists in a 3-0 semifinal loss to Eastern Oregon. The College of Idaho, which is 20-13, received an at-large bid to the 2024 NAIA Women’s Volleyball National Championship and will host Benedictine Mesa of Arizona on Saturday.
Kimbo Yarnell, Spokane CC Soccer
Despite a 3-0 loss to Peninsula in the NWAC semifinals, Kimbo finished out her career as an NWAC Soccer All-Star, receiving First Team Midfielder honors. Over the last two seasons, Kimbo appeared in 32 games, starting in 30 of those Sasquatch, and compiled two assists and 14 shots, eight of which were on goal. Spokane finished out the 2024 season with a record of 10-1-4.
Brandon Casey, University of Montana Football
In his 41st career start on the offensive line, Brandon, a 2020 Sandpoint High graduate, helped the Griz to 23 first downs and 446 total yards — 247 passing and 199 rushing — in a 28-17 home win over Portland State this past Saturday, which also happened to be senior day. Brandon was one of 26 seniors who were honored for their contributions to the program.
Lilly Carlson, University of Providence Soccer
A 2023 Sandpoint High graduate, Lilly recently finished out her first year with the 5-11-1 Lady Argos. She appeared in three games as a defender and recorded two shots across 62 minutes of playing time.
Savannah Rickter, Dickinson State Wrestling
Savannah, a 2024 Bonners Ferry High graduate, recently recorded her first collegiate win at the Waldorf University Open which was held Nov. 8-9 in Forest City, Iowa. Due to some absences, Savannah wrestled at 180 pounds instead of 165 and pinned Olivia Burciaga of Waldorf to help the Lady Blue Hawks secure a 32-10 dual win. Dickinson State will head to the Beaver Bash Duals in Minot, N.D. this upcoming Saturday.
