Nov. 21, 1974 – SENIORS BREAK GROUND
Ground breaking ceremonies were held Saturday at the city park at Forest and Main for a new headquarters for senior citizens in the Sandpoint area. The Bonner County Senior Citizen’s Council is leasing the land from the City of Sandpoint and will erect a 40x100 building to serve as a center.

ALEXANDER TRIAL SLATED FOR MARCH
Steven Alexander, aka Stefan Staskiewicz, 21, was bound over to District Court Monday after being apprehended in Portland by authorities there two weeks ago. He is charged with taking part in the July 22 jailbreak in which William Are, aka Morgan, 28, was freed at gunpoint from the county jail. Alexander is also a suspect as a participant in a holdup on July 31 when Robert and Craig Voris were robbed of $210 and a pickup.

GIRL SCOUT REDEDICATION CEREMONY
Members of Girl Scout Troop 144 repeated their promise and laws in a rededication ceremony Nov. 11 at the Sandpoint Community Hall. Parents of the scouters and Mrs. Perry Palmer, neighborhood president, were guests of honor. Taking part in the ceremony were Teri Burrough, Donna Driggs, Mary Driggs, Traci Gissel, Brenda and Janet Ingraham, Kay Madsen, Angie Nordgaarden, Kerry Sisler and Monica Tillberg. Troop leaders are Mrs. Donald Sisler and Mrs. Gerald Madsen.

Nov. 21, 1949 – HOSPITAL RATES INCREASE
Effective at once, Bonner General hospital’s rates for rooms will be $12 per day for a private room, $10 for semi-private, and $8 for the ward. Rising costs in hospital maintenance is a general situation all over the country, with small hospitals hit the hardest. The new rates will especially affect obstetrical cases, as room care is the greatest factor in their costs. These patients will now be asked to pay at least $50 in advance and make arrangements for regular payments on the balance before admission.

CHRISTIAN CHURCH OBSERVES BIRTHDAY
Sandpoint’s First Christian church [SE corner of Cedar and Forest] will observe its 40th birthday on
Sunday. The morning service will be followed by a dinner at noon in the church basement. In the evening service, Mrs. Margaret Bartlett will read a history of the church since its founding in 1909, after which a big birthday cake and coffee will be served.

PACK RIVER GRANGE ELECTS OFFICERS
The Pack River Grange Saturday elected officers, with W.T. Albertson elected master; James Strandy, secretary; Harold Aavedal, treasurer; Dorothy Davis, lecturer; Ollie Nash, chaplain; Gerald Nash, overseer; Elmo Barney, asst. steward; Virgil Barney, lady asst. steward; Darrell Davis, steward; Jess Burgner, gatekeeper; Bessie Reber, Dot Strandy and Wilma Albertson, graces; and Beno Zemke, a member of the executive committee.
