One dead, multiple injured in head-on collision
ELMIRA — A two-vehicle crash resulted in the death of a juvenile and multiple injuries Friday morning, Nov. 22.
Idaho State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred near milepost 490 of U.S. 95 just outside Elmira shortly after 8:30 a.m. Friday.
According to an Idaho State Police press release issued Friday afternoon, the accident occurred when the driver of a Dodge Ram pickup moved into the northbound lane as he attempted to pass multiple southbound vehicles. According to ISP, he then collided head-on with a northbound Ford Edge traveling in the northbound lane.
A juvenile passenger in the Ford Edge succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the accident, ISP officials said.
The 61-year-old male driver of the pickup, from Moyie Springs, Idaho, was transported by ambulance to an area hospital.
The 33-year-old female driver of the Ford Edge, from Otis Orchards, Washington, was also transported to an area hospital by ambulance, along with a 33-year-old female, from Deer Park, Washington, and a juvenile who were passengers in the SUV.
The highway was blocked intermittently for approximately three hours, according to the Idaho State Police press release, and was reopened around noon.
