Taylor honored as chamber’s top volunteer
SANDPOINT — Travis Taylor has been recognized as the Greater Sandpoint Chamber’s volunteer of the month for November.
A board member for North Idaho Ice, Taylor has worked with the organization to improve opportunities for winter recreation. Established in September 2021, the founders and members formed the nonprofit organization with the intent of facilitating the construction of a winter sports venue specific to ice sports.
NIICE operates on volunteer efforts and generous donations from the community. The group has worked closely with the city of Ponderay and the Field of Dreams initiative to provide a community rink that is available for public skating, figure skating, hockey programs, broomball, and private rentals.
With that collaboration, the ice rink on Kootenai Cutoff Road is becoming a reality. The chiller is set, the boards are up, and they are making ice, getting ready to open right after Thanksgiving.
“While everyone on the team has been working hard on this, Travis has been the driving force to get everyone together, every night,” Tim Wilson, fellow NIICE board member, said in nominating Taylor for the award. “Despite his family and professional obligations, Travis is the first one to arrive, the last one to leave, and staying sometimes until midnight to make this project come to fruition for our community.”
Taylor was honored by the chamber as its November Volunteer of the Month at the Chamber General Membership Luncheon on Thursday, Nov. 14.
