Shook Twins give thanks with holiday shows
A musical tradition will continue this weekend as the Shook Twins' Giving Thanks Show returns to the Panida Theater at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30.
This year, Katelyn and Laurie Shook are bringing Handmade Moments, a folk duo from New Orleans, to open the show and collaborate on songs throughout their set.
"It has become a wonderful thanksgiving tradition in Sandpoint," Katelyn Shook said. "And we are always proud to bring our musical friends home to play for the community we grew up in."
The show is an annual reunion for Katelyn and Laurie Shook as, for the past 12 years, the twins have been bringing their friends to town to share the stage with them in what has become a wonderful Thanksgiving tradition.
"We absolutely love playing the Panida and it brings us great joy to help support this historic gem every year," Katelyn Shook said. "We usually pass the hat for the Panida at set break, and this year you can donate and receive a raffle ticket for a Schweitzer season pass if you'd like."
Musical all their lives, identical twins Katelyn, vocals and guitar, and Laurie, banjo and vocals, began recording in 2007. The Shook Twins have released four albums: "You Can Have the Rest," "What We Do," "Some Good Lives" and "Windows" before just completing production on their latest. They've performed hundreds of shows across the nation and in Canada, including, since 2011 with the exception of the two COVID years, their annual Thanksgiving homecoming shows at the Pearl and Panida theaters.
In addition to Saturday's show at the Panida, the Shook Twins will also perform the day before at the Pearl Theater, 7160 Ash St., Bonners Ferry. Doors for the Friday, Nov. 29, show open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.
Advance tickets for the Bonners Ferry show will be available at will-call; and should be picked up at the door using order number, email or name. No tickets will be mailed, and all sales are final with no refunds or exchanges.
Both shows are a tradition for Shook Twin fans, who without fail pack the house year after year, as happy to see the twins as the twins are happy to perform for them.
"These hometown Giving Thanks shows in Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry have become some of our favorites of our touring year," Katelyn Shook said. "We put a lot of joy and effort behind making them different and even more special each year and the reciprocation of love we feel from our community is unlike any other show."
Tickets for the Panida Theater show are available online at panida.org. Tickets for the Pearl Theater show can be found at thehistoricpearltheater.org
The twins will be drawing the winner of the Panida's fundraising raffle for a Schweitzer season pass from the stage that evening. you can purchase raffle tickets in the lobby that night before the drawing. They are $10 each or 3 for $20.
"Laurie and I are excited to announce a winner in our set and make someone very happy — this year is going to be epic up on the mountain," Katelyn Shook said.
