CAREYWOOD ONCE CALLED SEVERANCE
Careywood, first known as Severance, has been around since 1900, at least. The post office at that time was located west of the railroad tracks. Mr. [Charles] Severance had a sawmill near the spring and into the field next to the N.P. tracks. There was a siding to take care of the loading of the lumber and freight. The name Severance became obsolete with the coming [about 1910] of Mr. C.F. Carey, another sawmill man, who became postmaster. Mr. Carey changed the name to Careywood and moved the post office to the location of his sawmill, near the site of the present Careywood store.

SANDPOINT HIGH SCHOOL NEWS
Members of the newly-formed SHS Science Club elected Brad Palmen as president and voted to close the club to sophomores. The club’s aim is to raise money to pay for scientific field trips to places such as the earthquake center in Newport, Wash., and even as far as Seattle.
Art Club held its first organizational meeting last week to set up the club basics. Those interested in joining should contact Kelly Haws, Naomi Marquez, Maggie Critchlow, Cris Agar or Robin Wieber.
