BOYS SOCCER

Sandpoint 5, Lakeland 0

SANDPOINT — At War Memorial Field, junior Huxley Hall had a goal and two assists, junior Caiden Gion a goal and an assist, and the host Bulldogs shutout the visiting Hawks on Thursday for senior night.

Hall, off an assist from Gion, and junior Jack Treman and sophomore Knox Williams, off assists from Hall, all scored in the first half for Sandpoint. Late in the second half, sophomore Calvin Schmidt recorded his first assist of the year on a goal by Gion. Junior Paulo Arias Blanco netted his first career varsity goal off a pass from freshman Pax Longanecker during the final minutes of play to give Sandpoint the 5-0 advantage.

"I was happy with the focus the boys maintained despite it being senior night," Sandpoint High head coach Dan Anderson said. "The way we possessed and moved the ball was exactly what we were trying to do ... the overall effort, focus, was what we wanted, and it was a good response to our game the other day which we felt was below our standard."

Sandpoint (8-4-2) hosts Lake City on Saturday.

1st half — 1, SPT, Huxley Hall (Caiden Gion), 4'. 2, SPT, Jack Treman (Hall), 9'. 3, SPT, Knox Williams (Hall), 28'. 2nd half — 4, SPT, Gion (Calvin Schmidt), 76'. 5, SPT, Paulo Arias Blanco (Pax Longanecker), 79'.

Shots on goal: SPT — 16. LL — 2.

Saves: SPT — Gavan Miles 2. LL — Ty VanMeeteren 11.

Priest River 2, Timberlake 1

SPIRIT LAKE — Seniors Cameron Howell and Nate Stifel both scored two goals, assisting each other, and the visiting Spartans spoiled the host Tigers' senior night Thursday at Timberlake High.

Priest River High head coach Ryan Carruth said the Spartans' back line was magnificent with standout performances from seniors Conner Stevens, Ryan Bell and Carter Cook and junior Jayden Stevens. Carruth also noted that goalkeeper Baylor White, a junior, made a few important saves for Priest River, which scored both their goals in the second half ... the exact opposite of what happened last year on the Spartans' senior night.

"We started slow, conceded an early goal, but fought our way into that game," coach Carruth said. "The second half response was incredible — the way we came alive."

Carruth said his Spartans (5-5-1), which host Orofino on Saturday, will need to remain more calm in the box with the final moment and do a better job of finishing chances going forward.

GIRLS SOCCER

Sandpoint 6, Lakeland 1

RATHDRUM — At Lakeland High, six different players scored for the visiting Lady Bulldogs in a 5A Inland Empire League win over the host Lady Hawks on Thursday.

Junior Mackenzie Mitchell, freshmen Sam Leaverton and Willow Betz, and sophomore Bayah Ratigan all scored in the first half, in that order, for Sandpoint, which led 4-1 at the break. Sophomore Izzy Stark and junior Ava Glahe scored late in the second half to extend the Lady Bulldogs' lead to five goals.

Junior Elia Howard added two assists, and Ratigan one for Sandpoint (7-5-1) which hosts Mead today.

1st half — 1, SPT, Mackenzie Mitchell (unassisted), 5'. 2, LL, Natalee Rose (Karstyn Kiefer). 3, SPT, Sam Leaverton (Bayah Ratigan), 18'. 4, SPT, Willow Betz (unassisted), 24'. 5, SPT, Ratigan (Elia Howard), 40'. 2nd half — 6, SPT, Izzy Stark (Howard), 68'. 7, SPT, Ava Glahe (unassisted), 72'.

CROSS COUNTRY

No results were available for the Ben Castro Invitational, which was held Thursday at the Pinehurst Golf Course. Both Priest River and Bonners Ferry were in attendance.

VOLLEYBALL

Clark Fork 3, Mullan 0

MULLAN — Juniors Aurora Lane and Piper Scarlett, along with sophomore Nora-Jean Hoy, combined for 18 aces and the visiting Lady Cats won in straight sets over the host Lady Tigers (25-12, 25-17, 25-12) at the Mullan Pavilion on Thursday.

"Going into this match, I challenged the girls to bring three components to every point: communication, coverage and celebration," Clark Fork High head coach Lyndsie Kiebert-Carey said. "It took some reminding, and Mullan has had some awesome serving development over the season that had us off kilter, but we managed to buckle down and make it happen."

Lane had nine aces and added nine assists, five kills and five digs. Hoy finished with five aces, eight assists, five kills and five digs. Scarlett registered four aces, four kills and five digs for the Lady Cats.

"The Mullan Pavilion is not an easy place to be a visiting team, so I'm glad the girls took care of business."

Clark Fork (3-10) travels to Noxon today.

Priest River 3, Orofino 2

PRIEST RIVER — Due to a five-set match and a 7:30 start time, full results and recap were not available before deadline and will be reported on in Saturday's paper.
