Too few voters determine our elections

| October 3, 2024 1:00 AM

For too long, too few voters have determined who wins our elections. That’s why I am voting yes on Proposition 1, the Open Primary Initiative on the Nov. 5 ballot.

It makes no sense that 270,000 eligible voters registered as independent or non-committed, have no real ability to vote and choose the candidate of their choice in Idaho’s primary election.

Proposition 1, the Idaho Open Primary Initiative allows all legal eligible voters to participate and vote for the candidate of their choice in the primary election by using only one ballot with all candidates from all parties. Everyone gets an opportunity to vote for their candidate of choice.

This means the winning candidates has to appeal to the majority of voters regardless of party affiliation if they want to win 50% plus of the vote.
