PREP ROUNDUP: Lamanna rebreaks school record at Ben Castro
CROSS COUNTRY
PINEHURST — At the Pinehurst Golf Course on Thursday, Priest River High senior Brayden Lamanna won the Ben Castro Invitational with a 5,000-meter time of 16 minutes and eight seconds, breaking his own school record by roughly seven seconds.
Lamanna previously broke his own school record set Aug. 30 at the Libby Cross Country Invitational — the Spartans' season-opener. Bonners Ferry High junior Ethan Cowell finished fourth with a new personal best time of 18 minutes and 17 seconds for the Badgers, which finished third out of three scoring teams.
On the girls' side Sydney Beckle led the Lady Badgers, who won the meet, to a 2-3-4-5-6 finish, clocking a new personal best time of 20 minutes and 29 seconds. Sophomore Alannah McLaimtaig (23:31) and junior Kyla White (23:32) both ran new personal bests and finished seventh and eighth, respectively, for the Lady Spartans.
Priest River will be back in action Oct. 12 at the Inland Empire Challenge, hosted by Lewis-and-Clark State College.

PRIEST RIVER — In a 3A Central Idaho League match at Priest River High, junior Toni Marinello notched a career-high 42 digs as the Lady Spartans' defense came up big in a five-set win over the visiting Maniacs (27-25, 15-25, 25-17, 15-25, 15-3) on Thursday.
"It's the best we have played in a very long time," Priest River High head coach Katlyn Ward said. "We had a couple girls come off the bench in new spots and kill it."
Senior Desi Humphrey added a team-high eight kills, 36 digs, and two aces, junior Jayda Storro 34 assists and two aces, sophomore Raygn Turner six kills. Junior Aleigha Jensen contributed four blocks, sophomore Callie Stanger 16 assists for Priest River (7-5), which travels to Timberlake on Tuesday.
Clark Fork vs. Noxon
NOXON — Due to a power outage at Noxon High, no game was played Friday between the cross-border rivals.
Clark Fork (3-10) hosts Kootenai today.

SANDPOINT — Senior Marlee McCrum and sophomore Jordyn Tomco both scored and assisted each other as the host Lady Bulldogs settled to a tie with the visiting Lady Panthers at War Memorial Field on Friday.
Sandpoint (7-5-2) will return to action Oct. 12 for the first round of the 5A Inland Empire League district tournament against an opponent yet to be determined.
