SEEK ANDRUS’ HELP TO CLEAR HWY 95 LINK

The Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce has asked for Gov. Andrus’ aid in getting the B.N. depot here removed from the Federal Historical Register. The depot, built shortly after the turn of the century, was placed on the Register in July 1973 at the request of Dr. Merle Wells, head of the Idaho State Historical Society. As long as it remains on the Register, construction of the last link of Highway 95 through Sandpoint is at a standstill. With the completion of the highway interchange north of Sandpoint earlier this year, the only remaining section is a little over a mile of highway along the east bank of Sand Creek.

YOUNGSTER HURT IN TUMBLE FROM AUTO

Little Judy Mace, three-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Mace, who reside on the Bonners Ferry highway, escaped serious injury when she fell from the slowly moving car driven by her mother at the corner of Second and Cedar. The little girl had unlocked the back door of the car and tumbled out, clutching her doll. The child was taken to the North Idaho clinic where she was treated for a cut lip and facial scratches. Although badly shaken and frightened, she had suffered no broken bones.

RAIN AND SNOW IS TOUGH ON HUNTERS

Low hanging clouds and steady rain marked the opening of Bonner county’s first elk season, hardly the kind of weather to hunt any kind of animals in. When the clouds lifted at midday, a white blanket on the mountains surrounding Lake Pend Oreille was disclosed. This is Bonner county’s first legal elk hunt since a planting was made in the Trestle creek -Hope area in the mid-1930s. Hunters have been warned to be on the lookout for moose as several head of these big fellows have been seen around Lake Pend Oreille during the past few months.
