Rickert wins 18U Pacific Clinic tourney

Full caption: Sandpoint High sophomore Pepper Rickert recently won both the 18U girls' singles and doubles tournaments at a UTSA Level 5 Open tennis tournament held Oct. 4-6 at the Pacific Clinic in Kennewick. In the 16-individual singles bracket, Rickert, after a first round bye, defeated Lily Deng of Richland, Wash. (6-0, 6-1) in the quarterfinals, her doubles partner Sofia de Looze of Kirkland, Wash. (6-2, 5-7, 11-9) in the semifinals, and Simone Thomas of Seattle in the championship after an injury withdrawal. In the 8-team doubles bracket, Rickert and de Looze defeated Adele Courtnage of Calgary, Alberta and Alexis Keller of Lewiston (8-0) in the quarterfinals, Anika Nair of Sammamish, Wash. and Najla El-Shimi  of Seattle (8-0) in the semifinals, and Kennedy Harris of Portland, Ore. and Mia Tombari of Spokane (8-3) in the championship.
