Sandpoint 2, Lewiston 0
SANDPOINT — Tied 0-0 at halftime, juniors Huxley Hall and Paulo Arias Blanco, on assists from junior Jasey Treman, scored goals and the No. 1 Bulldogs took home a 5A Inland Empire League district tournament victory over the No. 4 Bengals on Saturday at War Memorial Field.
"Loser-out tournament games are always nervy and this was no exception," Sandpoint High head coach Dan Anderson said. "Lewiston is a very physical, athletic, and committed team that plays a high line that can be difficult to break at times."
Anderson said he thought his team struggled to find a way past that high line in the first half, but responded to it well in the second.
"Credit to our back line of Brennan Shaw, Isaac Schmit, Caiden Gion, Gus Penrose and Blake McGrann," coach Anderson said. "They all put in an absolute shift today, allowing only one shot on goal — they were very much a big reason for our victory today."
Anderson said the team would love a packed house at War Memorial Field on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., when the Bulldogs face No. 2 Moscow for the 5A IEL District Championship match.

GIRLS SOCCER
Sandpoint 2, Moscow 0
MOSCOW — Like the boys game, Adele Michael and Marlee McCrum both scored second-half goals as the No. 3 Lady Bulldogs upset the No. 2 Lady Bears at Moscow High on Saturday in a 5A Inland Empire League loser-out district tournament match.
Michael's goal was assisted by McCrum, which started off the scoring for Sandpoint. In between the posts, senior Liliana Brinkmeier was busy with a handful of late Moscow attacks. The Lady Bears had a ball deflect off the post and Brinkmeier saved a high-flying ball in the final three minutes to clinch the shutout.
"Moscow played a great game and they are always a tough opponent," Sandpoint High head coach Alan Brinkmeier said. "Our girls have been focusing on moving off the ball more and opening as much space as possible on a smaller field."
Brinkmeier said that during halftime, he told his players to play for each other, and that's exactly what the Lady Bulldogs ended up doing.
"It was a solid game from everyone, some playing with nagging injuries to some playing with ankle injuries from yesterday," coach Brinkmeier said. "Everyone played their part and we couldn't have done it without all our players, our fans that traveled, and the coaching staff."
No. 3 Sandpoint will travel to No. 1 Lewiston for the the 5A IEL District Championship match set to be held Wednesday at a time yet to be determined.
