Oct. 13, 1974 – P, P & K WINNERS

Bright, crisp weather again favored the annual Sandpoint Punt, Pass and Kick contest sponsored by Ford Motor Co. and Evergreen Ford. Third place winners were Steven Kniffen, 8; David Parker, 10; Dan Powell, 11; Mark Halliday, 12; and Raymond Kopke, age 13. In second place were John Powell, 8; Ken Green, 9; Toddy Raynor, 10; John Havlick, 11; Kyle Menard, 12; and Dean Chapin, 13. First place winners were Hoyt Bonar, 8; Brandon Moon, 9; Erich Thompson, 10; Steve Kluver, 11; Kelly Ryan, 12; and Roy Spiller, 13. The six first place winners will compete further in Spokane.

KATHY SLACK IS BRIDE OF JOHN MCINTIRE

Calvary Baptist Church was the setting for the Sept. 21 wedding of Miss Kathy Slack, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney F. Slack, Sr., Adak, Alaska, and John F. McIntire, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.F. McIntire, Sandpoint. The newlyweds are residing at 1211 Spruce Street in Sandpoint.

MAX WILEYS TO LIVE IN ENGLAND

Mr. and Mrs. Max Wiley and their daughters, Sue, in sixth grade, and Carol, in eighth, will spend the next two years in Oxford, England, where he will teach boys’ P.E. in the Upper Heyford American High School. The Wiley family formerly resided in Hope. He taught art at the Sandpoint Junior High. Mrs. Wiley has taught at Kootenai School and was also connected with Rainbow Realty in Sandpoint.

Oct. 13, 1949 – THE CHANGING SCENE

A reminder from the past is jogging the memories of old timers who happen by the Masonic temple. In clearing out the first floor, what once was an outside wall of the Sandpoint Furniture store is exposed and a sign covered and forgotten many years is revealed “R & A Shopping Center” [dating to 1910s-1920s].

BIRTHDAY IS HONORED

  Miss Gail Sayers, who observed her 15th birthday Sunday, was honored at a gathering at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Julian E. Zenier. Miss Sayers is the daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Russell Sayers.

CELEBRATED SEVENTH BIRTHDAY

Kurt Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Brown, celebrated his seventh birthday with a party at his home after school. Bingo was enjoyed by the guests, after which birthday cake and ice cream were served. Guests were Ronnie Walker, Gary Brown, Skippy Pucci, Danny Deshon, Bruce Brown, Jimmy Pucci, Delbert Hansen and Junior Pellens.

HUNT BIRDS ON WEEK END

Donald Largent and his classmate at U of I, Stamore Lebey, spent the weekend here with Mr. and Mrs. Ira Largent, Donald’s parents. The young men took the opportunity to get in on the opening of bird season. Lebey, who also works with the Idaho wildlife research dept., collects bird specimens.
