PREP ROUNDUP: Hall helps Sandpoint boys soccer punch bid to state tourney
5A DISTRICT 1-2 BOYS SOCCER
Sandpoint 2, Moscow 1
SANDPOINT — Who else but Huxley Hall?
The Sandpoint High junior scored a goal in each half as the No. 1 Bulldogs took down No. 2 Moscow for their fifth straight 5A Inland Empire League district title on Tuesday at War Memorial Field.
"We had players playing well all over the field, battling for each other," Sandpoint High head coach Dan Anderson said. "What Huxley is producing on the field is no mistake, that is the result of countless hours out on the field, on his own, working on all aspects of his game... it's well earned."
Hall's first goal came unassisted after he capitalized on some Moscow defenders mixing up their assignments. His second goal, which was assisted by senior Bridger Cudmore after a great hustle play, put the Bulldogs up 2-0 during the 59th minute.
Anderson said with the run of play, he thought his Bulldogs could have had a few more goals, but got the job done anyhow.
"We're happy with the result and how the team collectively battled," coach Anderson said. "We knew it was going to be a tough and physical game. Moscow is a good team with 14 seniors with a lot of experience."
With the win, Sandpoint officially punched their ticket to the 5A state soccer tournament, set to be held Oct. 24-26 at Bonneville High in Idaho Falls.

POST FALLS — Junior Baylor White had 15 saves for the No. 4 Spartans, but the No. 1 Panthers scored three first-half girls en route to a 4-0 4A Intermountain League district tournament semifinal win on Tuesday at the Real Life Fields.
Priest River was down two starters, but battled until the final whistle despite the score line.
"It's always going to be tough to play our second game in two days against the No. 1 team in the league, especially when they're coming off rest with the first round bye," Priest River High head coach Ryan Carruth said.
Carruth said his team fought valiantly and should hold their heads high.
"I am so proud of these guys and so appreciative of all the hard work they put in over the last two years to improve and grow in the game — on and off the field," coach Carruth said. "Life first, soccer second. There were lessons learned that I'm confident will serve these guys as they move forward with their lives."

2A DISTRICT 1-2 GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Genesis Prep 3, Clark Fork 0
POST FALLS — Despite a loss in straight sets to the No. 1 Lady Jaguars (23-25, 22-25, 5-25), the No. 4 Lady Cats put a bit of shock into their opponents at The Courts at Real Life on Tuesday in the first round of the 2A Scenic Idaho Conference district tournament.
"They dominated our league this year, and we've had our ups and downs, but our girls really played with a level of selflessness and confidence towards the ball that I have only seen a couple of times this season," Clark Fork High head coach Lyndsie Kiebert-Carey said.
In both the first and second set, Clark Fork kept it close. In the second set specifically, junior Aurora Lane, who had four stuff blocks, six kills and an ace in the contest, opened up the set with a 7-0 run.
"We just had some awesome plays — we always say play to the whistle and we did that tonight and it helped us earn a lot of hard-fought points," coach Kiebert-Carey said.
Freshman Keira Gannon added four blocks, three kills and two aces, senior Hannah Thompson two aces and nine digs, sophomore Nora-Jean Hoy two aces, senior Olivia Yetter one block and one ace, junior Piper Scarlett an ace for Clark Fork (4-12), which travels to play No. 2 Lakeside on Thursday.
Kiebert-Carey said she believes that if her Lady Cats can play like they did during the first two sets tonight, they have a good shot at shocking Lakeside and continuing their season.
"This is a credit to how hard these girls have worked to level up our program on a more tangible level this year," coach Kiebert-Carey said. "Genesis Prep supporters came up to me after the match and talked with me about how our team remained positive and supportive of one another regardless of the score... these girls have done a stellar job of tackling the mental side of the game."
