Let's give credit where credit is due

Let's be clear. It was the Democrats in the Idaho Statehouse, and in particular, Sen. Melissa Wintrow, who deserve credit for working for more than a decade to increase the amount of contraceptive prescriptions women could purchase at a time from three months to six months. Senator Wintrow's bill finally passed this year by just one vote in the House after the GOP majority voted no year after year.

First of all, I find it shameful that in Idaho, a state with a near-total abortion ban, that we have to work this hard to get common sense laws passed to help women avoid unplanned pregnancies. And secondly, it is unbelievable that after all of this hard work by Senator Wintrup, we see the other side step in to try to take credit.

This hard-fought win is a perfect example of why we need a more balanced Legislature — it's why we need to send more Democrats to Boise. And it's why I'm voting for Karen Matthee for House Seat 1 A on Nov. 5. Read more on her website, kmattheeforidaho.com.
