Huschke to speak at Sunday event

NEWPORT — Kai Huschke will present "Pend Oreille County's Right to Be Rural Will Require Resistance & Resilience" at a special Sunday event.

The program will be held from 2-4 p.m. at Create Arts Center, 900 W. Fourth St., Newport.

Huschke is the executive director of the Environmental Community Legal Defense Fund.

The public is invited and donations will be accepted at the door. Refreshments will be served and there will be door prizes.

At the program, Huschke will talk about the region's unique character. However, he said, much of what makes the area unique — the forests, the rivers and the collection of communities — are out of the hands of those who call Pend Oreille County home. At the program, Huschke will talk about how to navigate the discord residents may feel and the reality that exists in the region and the future of the county

The event is sponsored in partnership with Create Arts Center and Responsible Growth * Northwest. The program is funded in part through a Kalispel Tribe of Indians Charitable Fund.
