Prop 1 threatens integrity of our elections

| October 20, 2024 1:00 AM

I am writing to voice my firm opposition to Proposition 1, which is set to appear on the November ballot. Idahoans for Open Primaries are misleading the public by claiming that this measure is about open primaries. In reality, it is an effort to implement ranked choice voting, and their claims are entirely misleading.

Idahoans for Open Primaries blatantly lies when they state that Prop 1 will restore Idaho's voting traditions. First, we have never had ranked choice voting in our state, and second, Proposition 1 is not about open primaries at all. Instead, it introduces a pre-election they are calling a "top four primary," which ultimately infringes on our right to freely associate, as protected by the First Amendment.

This initiative would change the way we vote, creating confusion, undermining our established electoral process, forcing us to use centralized electronic ballot counting machines like Dominion, ultimately losing any local control over our elections, and exposing us to more fraud. By promoting RCV under the guise of reform, they are not only misleading voters but also threatening the integrity of our elections.

It is crucial that Idahoans understand what Proposition 1 truly represents. This measure does not honor our voting traditions; it attempts to impose a convoluted system that dilutes our voices and diminishes our representation.

Let’s stand against the misinformation and protect our electoral system. We deserve clear, honest elections that accurately reflect the voice of the people.
