RATHDRUM — At Lakeland High, the No. 4 Lady Bulldogs fell in straight sets to the No. 1 Lady Hawks (7-25, 5-25, 17-25) on Tuesday in a 5A Inland Empire League district tournament loser-out match.

Sandpoint High head coach Piper Wahlin said her team was really hoping to show up and give Lakeland a fight, but unfortunately weren't able to come through. Despite the loss, Wahlin noted that a positive that came to her mind was the amount of passion senior Audrey Petruso played with.

"Her care and effort is going to be missed for a long time," Wahlin said of Petruso. "She has played every match like it's her last since freshman year."

In the other loser-out match, No. 2 Lewiston bested No. 3 Moscow in five sets (25-23, 21-25, 19-25, 25-14, 15-11), which means Lakeland and Lewiston will play a best-of-three series starting Thursday to determine to district champion.

Based on reports, Sandpoint officially ends the season 0-14 in five-set matches, 6-5 in three-set tournament matches.
