Sunshine on Cedar brings splash of Hawaii to area
SANDPOINT — A slice of Hawaiian paradise is coming to the community as a pair of local residents prepare to open a new island-inspired venue in the Cedar Street Bridge.
Sunshine on Cedar, led by Damon Eder and partner Jeanette Eder, will celebrate its grand opening at a celebration set for Saturday, Oct. 26, from 5 to 7 p.m.
The venue combines elements of a wine bar, tap house and Hawaiian eatery, featuring charcuterie boards with island flair alongside an extensive beverage menu. The grand opening will include food samples, a photo booth and an island wear contest.
"We wanted to create more than just a bar and eatery," said Eder, who spent 30 years working in Waikiki after leaving his hometown of Nampa. "It's a gathering place where families and friends can experience true island hospitality in the heart of Sandpoint."
Jeanette Eder, who was born on Oahu and is of Native Hawaiian (Kanaka Maoli) decent, brings authentic island cuisine and cultural elements to the venture.
The duo aims to give the community a taste of Hawaii's renowned hospitality culture in the cozy downtown spot overlooking Sand Creek and under the constant gaze of Schweitzer Mountain.
The venue, which is located on the second floor of the Cedar Street Bridge, 334 N. First Ave., will be open Monday-Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Beyond food and drinks, Sunshine on Cedar is already engaging with the local community. The venue will participate in Sandpoint's Halloween Candy Walk on Oct. 31 and will host a fundraiser for Sandpoint High School's volleyball program Nov. 9.
The establishment offers wines by the glass or bottle, draft beers, hard seltzers, canned cocktails and non-alcoholic options. Private events can be arranged by contacting the venue at 208-597-7055 or socsandpoint@gmail.com.
