Sandpoint’s sweet tooth tour

Craving candy? Look no further than Sandpoint’s assortment of Oct. 31 activities that are sure to scare you silly and satisfy your sugar needs. 

For a trick-or-treating alternative, try trunk-or-treating. This twist on a classic takes place in a parking lot; kids go from one decorated vehicle to the next to collect candy. For rural or semi-rural residents, it’s a great way to safely enjoy a Halloween tradition. 

Trunk-or-treats are set to be hosted across Sandpoint — Sandpoint Lions Club will sell snacks as a fundraiser at its Lakeview Park event, while the trunk-or-treat at Kessa’s Court near Bonner Mall is set to include games, food trucks and a haunted forest. 

Matchwood Brewing’s inaugural trunk-or-treat will feature a costume contest and car-stume contest (for best dressed vehicle). In Ponderay, Mountain Motors’ event will offer music, face painting and more. 

Young goblins, ghosts and ghouls can visit the Sandpoint Library for a toddler Halloween party. The Thursday morning event will include stories, dancing, a costume parade and a craft-and-treat. 

If you prefer spooky over sweet, you might visit one of the haunted buildings in downtown Sandpoint. Panida Theater will host its final night of Little Theater of Horrors, a haunted house experience made in collaboration with Nova High School. While you’re at it, wander the halls of Music Conservatory of Sandpoint’s 116-year-old building to witness mysterious music performances and collect candy. 

For the most fearless of all, stop by City Beach for the Witches, Warlocks & Wizards Paddle and face the cold water of Lake Pend Oreille. The event is open to kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards; costumes are highly encouraged. Bring a dish to share and brave the waters of Idaho’s deepest, darkest lake — if you dare.
