COLLEGE NOTEBOOK: Rickter ranked in weight class heading into 2024 season

Savannah Rickter, Dickinson State University Wrestling

Despite not competing in a collegiate bout yet, Savannah, a 2024 Bonners Ferry High graduate, is ranked eighth at 160 pounds for the Lady Blue Hawks, which received a fifth-place team ranking in the latest Heart of America Conference preseason poll. The Dickinson State women's wrestling team is 37 strong this year, and out of those 37, the team has 11 wrestlers who are ranked in the HAAC and four who are nationally-ranked in the NAIA. Dickinson State opens the season Nov. 8 and 9 at the Waldorf Open in Forest City, Iowa.

Caleb Norling, Olivet Nazarene University Swimming

Caleb, a 2023 Sandpoint High graduate, swam to second place out 12 competitors in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.54) as the Tiger men defeated Illinois Tech 209-71 and Wheaton (Ill.) 200-80 in a home tri-meet Saturday. Caleb also finished fifth out of 16 in the 100 freestyle (49.45), and led off the Tigers' 200 medley relay (4th out of 11 in 1:40.17) and 400 freestyle relay (5th out of 10 in 3:24.77). Olivet Nazarene hosts St. Ambrose this Saturday.

Aubree Lane, Spokane CC Volleyball

In two recent wins over Walla Walla CC (3-1) and Treasure Valley (3-0), Aubree, a 2024 Sandpoint High graduate, put up a combined 19 kills, three aces, three blocks, an assist, and 35 digs, 25 (new career best) of which came in the win over Treasure Valley. Spokane (12-12) travels to Wenatchee Valley Wednesday and Columbia Basin on Thursday.

Brandon Casey, University of Montana Football

In the Grizzles' 24-0 shutout road win over Northern Colorado this past Saturday, Brandon, a 2020 Sandpoint High graduate, made his 38th career start on the offensive line and helped Montana to 21 first downs and 395 total yards of offense — 198 rushing and 197 passing. Montana (6-2) heads to Cal Poly this Saturday.

Camille Ussher, Lewis-Clark State College Cross Country

Camille, a 2022 Bonners Ferry High graduate, finished fourth for the Lady Warriors and 67th out of 303 runners with a 6,000-meter time of 23 minutes and 48 seconds at the Blazing Tiger Classic held this past Saturday at Doane University in Crete, Neb. Lewis-Clark, which returns to action Nov. 8 for the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships in Portland, Ore., finished fifth out of an impressive 27 NAIA teams at the meet.

Abigail Shumaker, Lewis-Clark State College Cross Country

A 2020 Bonners Ferry High graduate, Abigail was fifth for the Lady Warriors and 71st overall with a 6,000-meter time of 23 minutes and 51 seconds at the Blazing Tiger Classic. In the most recent NAIA Coaches' Poll, Lewis-Clark State's women are ranked 15th in the nation.

Emma Lucas, Big Bend CC Volleyball

In a recent loss to Columbia Basin (3-0) and a win over Blue Mountain (3-1), Emma, a 2023 Bonners Ferry High graduate, combined for 30 assists and 11 digs. Big Bend (11-14) travels to Yakima Valley on Wednesday.
