Popeye Thornber, 87, passed away at Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024.
Private family services have been held.
Born Richard Harve Thornber on March 13, 1937, in Bakersfield, Calif., to Harve and Marie Thornber, he grew up and attended schools in Bakersfield. After graduating he worked construction with his father.
He moved to Morro Bay and spent years building boats. He also worked for the California Highway Department inspecting bridges.
For the past 20 years, he has lived in Priest River, Idaho. Popeye was a “Ramblin Man,” he was an intellectual and had eclectic tastes. His passions were boats and spending time on the water.
He is survived by his sister, Jo Duncan of Edmond, Okla.; and friends, Steve and Rebecca Teraberry of Priest River, and Sube Beard of Sandpoint, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents.
