ISHS announces grant, history initiative
In just under two years, America will celebrate its 250th birthday.
The Idaho State Historical Society, in collaboration with the America250 in Idaho State Agency Task Force, have announced a grant opportunity and oral history initiative aligned with the America250 in Idaho commemoration.
The commemoration, culminating in 2026, is a national effort to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the nation's founding. Idaho's commemoration aims to advance the ideals of the American Revolution — equality, liberty and justice — through community engagement while recognizing Idaho's journey in America's legacy.
The America250 in Idaho Grant Program provides grants to qualifying organizations ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 with a 10% match (cash or in-kind). Funding supports capital, accessibility, sustainability, preservation and educational projects. Details on eligible projects, application criteria and timeline are available at bit.ly/3APqIqf. Nonprofits, tribal and local governments can apply at bit.ly/3XtAGFB. The application deadline is Sept. 30, 2024.
The America250 in Idaho Oral History Initiative provides access to an oral history software subscription, TheirStory Inc. Through this partnership with the Idaho State Historical Society, eligible entities can better manage oral history projects. The initiative is open to Idaho nonprofits; tribal, federal, state and local government; universities and K-12 schools; and for-profit businesses.

These opportunities support Idaho's America250 commemorative efforts. Projects completed will become part of America250 in Idaho's lasting legacy.
"We are fully committed to leveraging this unique, once-in-a-lifetime commemoration to ensure that historical and cultural organizations across the state gain vital access to essential resources," state historian HannaLore Hein said.
