Absentee ballots ensure honest, fair elections

| September 3, 2024 1:00 AM

This is a follow-up to my last two letters and demonstrates how some display their hypocritical mind frame.

In this case, I refer to Len Golding's letter (Daily Bee, Aug. 29) championing voting in person on election day only. No mail-in, early or absentee voting, unless you are in the military or physically unable to show up at the poll on that one day, implying elections would not be "honest and fair," otherwise. Well, to be "honest and fair," open primaries are the most "honest and fair" as they would allow the most people to vote in an open, "honest and fair" way. Apparently, Mr. Golding still believes the lies that were spread after the last presidential election by the losing candidate.

He cites Pennsylvania's early voting starting in mid-September. Idaho has absentee ballots, and I believe that every state has some form of early voting.

The fact is with the nature, pace and complexity of today's world, having to schedule one day is very impractical for many and would likely lead to their disenfranchisement in the voting process because they just don't have the time.

Bottomline: early, absentee and same-day registration and voting seems to me to be the most "honest and fair" to allow the most people to vote ... in an "Honest and Fair" way, don't you?"
