JV FOOTBALL: Sandpoint runs past St. Maries

SANDPOINT — This past Thursday, Sandpoint’s junior varsity football team, just like the varsity squad, put up to 286 rushing yards in their 46-14 win over St. Maries at War Memorial Field.

Jensen Sheetz led the Bulldogs with 129 rushing yards over nine attempts and scored two touchdowns — one in the first after a 42-yard run and a 17-yard run in the second which extended Sandpoint’s lead to 25-0. Brock Yarbrough, who had one reception for 26 yards receiving, scored on his only rushing attempt of the game after a 7-yard try before halftime, extending the Bulldogs' lead to 32-0.

In the third quarter, Gabe Zaloga had a 67-yard touchdown run and Logan Iverson, the starting quarterback, a 48-yard touchdown run to bring Sandpoint’s lead to 46 points.

Iverson was 3-for-5 with 76 yards passing and threw one touchdown through the air, which was a 37-yard score caught by Carson Resso to end the first quarter. Zachary Beers, who saw some time in Saturday’s varsity game, also accounted for a touchdown, rushing for a 6-yard score to begin the second quarter.

On defense, Mason McLain, Trey Blumenberg, and Joah Collins all had tackles for losses. Grady Przybylski had an interception and led the team in total tackles with eight. Bow Nesbitt also hauled in an interception for the Bulldogs.

Sandpoint held St. Maries to 104 rushing yards, most which came in the fourth quarter, and 125 passing yards.
