Priest River Valley BCH sets scavenger hunt

| September 4, 2024 1:00 AM

It's time to head out on the trail as the Priest River Valley Back Country Horsemen holds its annual scavenger hunt this weekend.

The event, set for Saturday, Sept. 7, at Chipmunk Rapids near the Priest Lake information center on Highway 57, is the group's major fundraiser for the year.

"This is a beautiful place to bring your friends, family and horses to camp out and ride with us," Christina Taylor said.

The theme of this year's scavenger hunt is "leave no trace."

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the scavenger hunt at 9 a.m. The entry fee is $25 and offers a chance to win some great prizes. Afterward, there will be a lunch of pork ribs and ranch beans by LP Ranch; the cost is $15.

"Come up and have fun on your horse," Taylor said. "These trails are very family friendly for all levels to enjoy."

The event is Priest River Valley BCH's annual fundraiser. This year, the group is holding a silent auction in addition to the scavenger hunt with a number of great ideas donated by local businesses, Taylor said.

Priest River Valley BCH is a volunteer group of people who love horses and mules, packers and trail riders who provide trail maintenance, and work to keep trails clear of downed trees and debris from storms in the area. In addition, members do trail improvement projects at trailheads and parking areas to ensure safe use by hikers, horseback riders and all user groups.
