POAC fall adult art class schedule offers diverse choices
Pend Oreille Arts Council started the Joyce Dillon Studio adult art classes to bring diverse opportunities to experienced artists and neophytes alike. And this fall’s schedule has a class designed with you in mind. You’ll want to go to www.artinsandpoint for details about each class and information on how to register.
Except for the metal sculpting classes, which are held at Dave Gonzo’s studio for obvious reasons, classes are held at the POAC Gallery and Office at 313 N. Second Avenue. Drop by to see the recent exhibit and to see the works of each instructor.
On Sept. 18 and 19 from 6 to 8 p.m., Molly Gentry will be teaching a class called “Vintage Vibe Collage and Assemblage.” This is exactly what it sounds like. You’ll use vintage items to create a work of art. Registration deadline is Sept. 12.
One of the most unique classes at Joyce Dillon Studio, is the photo embroidery with Hillary Dunbar. It’s held Sept. 24 and 25 from 1 to 4 p.m. This unusual art form includes photo manipulation techniques with embroidery methods and is suitable for all skill levels.
Sept. 21 is the deadline to register for Dave Gonzo’s ornate hook forging class. The class to be held Friday, Sept. 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. will provide you with all the materials and instructions on how to create ornamental hooks. Dave is an accomplished artist and informative instructor.
Also on Sept. 27, Jenni Barry will be teaching a fiber arts class in Kimekomi. This class registration also is Sept. 21. This amazing Japanese art form can be simple or complex depending on your design, and Barry makes it fun as well as creative. The class runs from 1 to 5 p.m. and it’s possible to finish your masterpiece in that timeframe.
If you’re interested in learning the finer techniques of acrylic painting, Jenny Benoit’s realistic class is for you. This class runs on four Tuesdays starting Oct. 1 from 1 to 4 p.m. Register by Sept. 25.
Jan Rust will once again be teaching her fabulous class on weaving. Rust designs her instruction based on her students’ experience and expertise – from beginners to advanced. This class is offered on four Mondays from 1 to 4 p.m. starting Oct. 7. The deadline to register is Oct. 1.
If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to make ceramic slab plates, now is the time to book your seat at Naomi Elting’s class. Scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to noon on four Tuesdays starting Oct. 8, you will be able to complete a set of plates. All skill levels are welcome. Reserve your spot by Oct. 2.
In response to popular demand, local acrylic artist, Dan Carpenter will be offering his class from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in order to accommodate students who work during the day. Tuesday, Oct. 8, Wednesday, Oct. 9, and Thursday, Oct. 10, are the dates, and you should register by Oct. 2.
Fans of Susan Gallo’s work will be delighted to hear that she’s teaching a class on paper collage on three Wednesdays starting Oct. 9 from 9 a.m. to noon. Book this class by Oct. 3 to snag your seat at the table with this extraordinary artist.
Pend Oreille Arts Council facilitates visual and performing arts programs in Bonner County. Besides facilitating performing arts events including the Ovations program in local schools, POAC facilitates art education for all ages. The Kaleidoscope and Expressions programs is geared toward school-age students while the Joyce Dillon Studio and the Art of Life program at the senior center involves adults in the art of creativity.
