PREP VOLLEYBALL: Priest River falls just short of Kellogg
Kellogg 3, Priest River 2
PRIEST RIVER — In a game where the Lady Spartans held a 2-1 lead, the visiting Wildcats managed to find a way to squeak out a five-set 3A Central Idaho League victory (27-29, 25-19, 25-18, 25-27, 10-15) on Tuesday night at Priest River High.
In the fourth set, Priest River trailed 12-21 before scoring 12 of the next 14 points to take a one-point lead. However, the Wildcats forced a fifth set with their second 25-plus set win of the night, eventually taking home the win after going on an 8-4 scoring run to end the game.
Junior Jayda Storro once again paced Priest River on offense with 25 assists and six aces. Senior Desi Humphrey led all Lady Spartans hitters with seven kills. On defense, junior Toni Marinello recorded 20 digs, junior Aleigha Jensen a season-high four blocks.
Priest River High head coach Katlyn Ward said it was a fight all the way through and that a lot of floaters (non-starters) came in and helped carry the team.
"Our goal has been to be each others best friends and supporters on the court," coach Ward said. "The girls did that tonight — constantly fighting for each other. Losses teach us more and now we know what we need to work on."
Priest River (4-1) travels to Riverside on Thursday.
