Hudson earns spot on SCC honor roll

Savannah Hudson of Priest River has earned a place on the Spokane Community College honor roll for summer quarter 2024. Students on the honor roll earned a GPA of 3.0 or above.

Community Colleges of Spokane is a 12,300-square-mile state community college district that includes Spokane Community College, Spokane Falls Community College and six rural education sites, serving residents in Pend Oreille, Stevens, Whitman, Ferry and parts of Lincoln counties.

CCS offers high-quality academic transfer, career-technical and eLearning degree and certificate programs; business and community training; and adult literacy programs throughout northeastern Washington, enrolling approximately 34,000 students a year.

Meet-and-greet set in Blanchard

Area candidates are taking part in an upcoming meet-and-greet event Thursday, Sept. 20, at Blanchard Community Center, 685 Rusho Lane, Blanchard.

The event begins at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

Candidates taking part are Steve Johnson, Bonner County commission candidate; Tom Hearn, Legislative District 2 state senate candidate; Kathryn Larson, Legislative District 1B House of Representatives candidate; Karen Matthee, Legislative District 1A House of Representatives candidate; and Loree Peery, Legislative District 2A House of Representatives candidate.

Master Gardeners set September drop-in clinic

NEWPORT — The public is invited to attend a drop-in garden clinic and tour at the Washington State University Master Gardeners' demonstration garden and greenhouse Friday, Sept. 20.

Visitors can drop in anytime between 9 a.m. and noon to visit with local Master Gardeners about gardening in the region. Brief demonstrations will be repeated on the hour, showcasing a wide variety of gardening techniques and what's growing in the demonstration garden that attendees may be able to replicate in their own gardens.

Guided tours of the garden will be offered every 15 minutes, providing an opportunity to see firsthand the various gardening methods and plants on display. Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer gardening questions.

The demonstration garden is located just northwest of the WSU/Pend Oreille County Extension Office, 227 S. Garden Ave., in Newport.

The event is free and open to the public. No registration is required.
