Parade group creates interest in Canadian author

| September 12, 2024 1:00 AM

One of the groups, marching in the recent Sandpoint Fourth of July parade, had dressed as handmaids as depicted in "The Handmaid's Tale," a dystopian novel authored by Margaret Atwood and released in 1990. This parade group caused a bit of a stir as evinced by a recent letter to the editor from the board members of the Bonner County Republican Women, Inc. This encouraged me to find out more about this Canadian author.

Atwood is, of course, a prolific author of all sorts of publications — novels, poetry, nonfiction, children's books, etc. "The Handmaid's Tale" has even been banned in some U.S. states and other countries; perhaps guaranteeing its success. You can learn much more about her via the Internet. Of special interest might be her recent interview at the 2024 Sun Valley Writers Conference: svwc.com/media/audio/2024-burning-questions.
