Farm Bureau sets Veterans Day contest

Farm Bureau Insurance Company of Idaho is kicking off its annual Veterans Day essay contest, inviting Idaho students to write about family members who have served or are serving in the armed forces.
Students can participate in three age categories: grades 1-6, 7-9 and 10-12. Winners will receive cash prizes of $250, $500 and $750, respectively.
Winners will present portions of their essays at the 12th annual Farm Bureau Salute to Idaho Veterans on Nov. 1 at the company's Pocatello office from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Entry forms are available from local Farm Bureau Insurance agents or online. The deadline is Oct. 17.
The free event honoring veterans, active-duty military and their families will feature a flag ceremony, military hymns and a keynote speech by NFL icon and Vietnam veteran Rocky Bleier. Attendees will receive a commemorative coin and free lunch.
