Local Special Olympics athletes excel at regional bocce ball tournament
The Sandpoint Monarchs Special Olympics bocce ball team posted a handful of top finishes at North Fall Regionals, held at the Chase Sports Field Complex in Post Falls.
Despite a hot day, the Monarchs stepped up and played really well together. Hayley Thompson, Tammy Shivel, Kimberly Anderson, Michelle Couldry and Mallory Gilchrist all received fourth place, fighting off some stiff and close competition in their divisions in order to do so. Kyle Horowitz and Jordan Firstenberg impressed, earning second place in their division while John Painter and Bob Liechtman earned first place in their division.
The Monarchs will compete next Nov. 23 at North Bowling Regionals, set to be held at Sunset lanes in Coeur d'Alene.
