Sept. 19, 1974 – L-P ANNOUNCES CUT-BACK
Citing high interest rates and “inflationary Forest Service practices,” Louisiana-Pacific Corp. said that, effective Monday, production schedules will be temporarily reduced at the Intermountain division’s 13 sawmill and studmill operations. It is not known yet how many people in Bonner County will be affected, though a reduction in production at the L-P mills in Sandpoint and Priest River is expected.

BULLDOG BENCH HOSTS FIELD TOUR
Besides many Bench members, representatives of the City of Sandpoint, the School Board, Sandpoint High School, the War Memorial Field Board and interested members of the business community who attended Tuesday’s Bulldog Bench luncheon at the Pastime, got a peek at recent Memorial Field improvements. Chuck Bonar welcomed the guests, then turned the meeting over to Coach Cotton Barlow, SHS athletic director. The group then went to Memorial Field for an on-the-spot look. The new ticket office grandly sits at the gate, which bears the Bulldog emblem, painted by SHS building engineer Lawrence Dawson. After touring the new fieldhouse, they saw the freshly painted grandstands, newly paved road and beautiful landscaping, all provided through donated money and labor. “We’re very proud of the new facilities,” Cotton said. “There’s not another town in the country like Sandpoint, and I’m proud to be a member of this community.” The rest of the public can see the improvements first hand Friday, when the Bulldogs play the Moscow Bears.

HAZING OF FRESHMEN INVESTIGATED
Hazing of freshmen outside of school by upper classmen drew a sharp rebuke from high school authorities last week. Trips to the cemetery where paddling took place and other offenses were called “out of bounds” by Principal L.W. Haight. It was freshmen initiation week, but activities like lipsticking the faces of both boys and girls and some boys being required to wear diapers were as far as the festivities were to go. Excesses beyond this were not countenanced by authorities. Freshmen initiation is winding up with a special assembly and a dance.
