Sept. 24, 1974 – KNITTING BUG OPENS
The Knitting Bug, a new store for busy hands has opened next to Wright’s Paints. The store, run by Gini Woodward, offers a wide variety of materials for painters and sewers, specializing in Tole painting. The Knitting Bug sells yarns, supplies, and knitting machines, and does custom knitting and painting.

BONNER GENERAL ADMINISTRATOR NAMED
The BGH Board of Directors named Curt McEwan as BGH administrator, filling the vacancy left by the recent death of James Breinich. Born in Priest River, McEwan, 62, has been on the Board for 10 years, serving since June as interim administrator.

THREE NAMED SEMIFINALISTS
Three SHS seniors, David Dalby, Robert Keene, and Geoffrey Gilmore are among 15,000 semi-finalists vying for 3,400 Merit Scholarships after scoring in the top one-half of one percent in the 1973 PSAT-National Merit Scholarship Test.

BCYAA ELECTS BENDA AS PRESIDENT
The Bonner County Youth Athletic Assn. elected new officers: Dennis Benda, who worked with Pony League baseball last year, is president; Al Kluver, vice-president; Jack Knaggs, secretary; and Mike Dukart is retained as treasurer. Outgoing president, Bill Fournier, will hold down a director’s position as well as the football commissioner’s job this year.

Sept. 24, 1949 – NEW RICHFIELD OPERATOR!
James Groves is the operator of the new Richfield station constructed at First and Lake [in 2024, site of Savory Neighborhood Grill]. Groves will be assisted by his father-in-law, George Davis. The attractive station, a prefabricated steel unit in the traditional blue and gold Richfield colors, is set well back from the corner, giving plenty of parking space on both sides of the station, which has a large grease rack on the north side. The station’s formal opening is next Saturday. There will be cigars for the men, flowers for the ladies, balloons for the youngsters and free cokes for everybody who visits the station on opening day. Door prizes will also be awarded.

HAZEL MORRIS JOINS WACS
Miss Hazel Morris, daughter of Jim Morris of Sagle, has been accepted in the WACs and will leave for Spokane Sept. 27. She will receive basic training at Camp Lee, Va. Miss Morris, a graduate of the Sandpoint high school, was enlisted through the local army recruiting office by Sgt. H.H. Jahnke.

JOINED ARMED SERVICES
Among Bonner county youths enlisting in the armed services in August are Vernon Zielinski, who joined the army. Charles E. Miller and Lyle Gooding, both of Naples, joined the corps of army engineers. All three are taking their basic training at Ft. Ord. Ted Bricker and Jim Bell, who joined the air force, are taking basic training at Lackland Field, Tex.
