CLARK FORK — Four Lady Cats combined for 18 aces, but the visiting Lady Miners clinched a sweep (22-25, 20-25, 17-25) at Clark Fork High on Thursday.
“I always tell them, ‘You’re the strongest serving team I have ever coached, and you should be proud of that,’” Clark Fork High head coach Lyndsie Kiebert-Carey said. “You could tell Wallace felt that tonight."
Clark Fork led by as much as seven points in the first set, 14-7, but Wallace took control midway through to take home the set win. In the second set, Wallace went up 20-4, but Clark Fork rallied for 16 of the next 21 points to keep things interesting. However, the visiting Lady Miners eventually took home the third set, leading the entire way.
“We tried out something new with the rotation tonight, with Keira (Gannon) playing outside and Hannah (Thompson) middle back defense,” coach Kiebert-Carey said. “Hannah really rose to the occasion — she is such a hard worker ... she got touches on balls that we were nowhere near when we went down to Wallace a few weeks ago.”
Junior Aurora Lane had four kills, four aces, and seven digs, sophomore Nora-Jean Hoy three kills and a team-high six aces for the Lady Cats. Senior Hannah Thompson added six digs and five aces, junior Piper Scarlett three aces for Clark Fork (2-9) which travels to Coeur du Christ on Tuesday.
Lewiston 3, Sandpoint 0
LEWISTON — Junior Belen Gonzales posted a team-high seven kills as the visiting Lady Bulldogs fell to the host Lady Bengals in straight sets (19-25, 11-25, 23-25) at Lewiston High on Thursday.
Sandpoint High head coach Piper Wahlin said that overall, the team improved on the night, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Senior libero Audrey Petruso led the Lady Bulldogs with 13 digs.
“Lewiston served tough and got us out of system, which made our hitters less effective as the match went on,” coach Wahlin said. “After a tough second set, we battled back and almost took the third.”
Sandpoint (0-10) will travel to Spokane for the Sheridan-Welch Crossover Classic, which will be held today and Saturday at Shadle Park, Rogers, Lewis and Clark and Ferris high schools.
Kellogg 3, Priest River 1
KELLOGG — At Kellogg High, junior setter Jayda Storro posted 34 assists, but the visiting Lady Spartans fell in four sets (18-25, 15-25, 25-19, 22-25) to the host Lady Wildcats on Thursday.
Despite the loss, Priest River High head coach Katlyn Ward said it was the best she has seen her team play in several games.
“Everyone worked as a team,” coach Ward said. “It wasn’t enough tonight, but we played so much like the team that began this season.”
Senior Desi Humphrey led the offense with a team-high 10 kills, also adding 22 digs and four aces. Sophomore Raygn Turner added nine kills and 20 digs, and junior Aleigha Jensen four aces and a block. Junior Toni Marinello posted a team-high 23 digs while sophomore Rylee Dixon chipped in with one block.
Priest River (6-5) will look to snap their four-game losing skid Thursday when they host Orofino.
