IDFG announces youth marksmanship skills workshop

| September 28, 2024 1:00 AM

Idaho Fish and Game staff and volunteers in the Panhandle Region will host a youth marksmanship skills workshop on Oct. 5 at the Farragut Shooting Range Center.

The workshop targets youth ages 9-17 who have completed hunter education.

Participants will receive one-on-one instruction on shooting safety and essentials, focusing on scope sighting mechanics. National Rifle Association-certified range safety officers and instructors will provide individual guidance.

The hands-on workshop will cover gun safety basics, shooting terminology and techniques, and the mechanics of sighting a rifle scope.

For the workshop, participants must bring the rifle they plan to use during the 2024 big game hunting seasons along with one box of factory ammunition, as reloads are not permitted. Eye and ear protection are also required.

The workshop runs 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration costs $15 per student.

Students must show a hunter education card or a 2024 hunting license.

State regulations require participants under 12 to have a parent, guardian or designated adult present during live-fire activities.
