PREP ROUNDUP: Sandpoint boys soccer escapes Lewiston for fourth straight win
BOYS SOCCER
Sandpoint 3, Lewiston 2
SANDPOINT — Junior Huxley Hall recorded two goals and an assist as the host Bulldogs scored three first-half goals in an Inland Empire League win over Lewiston on Saturday at War Memorial Field.
During the first 15 seconds, Sandpoint trailed 1-0 after an own goal, but bounced back with goals in the fifth, 13th, and 18th minutes before giving one up in the 64th.
"It was a bizarre own goal that you only see once in a blue moon — a back pass we miscommunicated on," Sandpoint High head coach Dan Anderson said. "That put us on the back foot immediately, but I like the way we responded and I felt like we were building and growing into the game."
Hall scored the first two on assists from sophomore Knox Williams and freshman Pax Longanecker. Junior Jasey Treman netted his first goal of the season on an assist from Hall to give Sandpoint the 3-1 lead.
"As we got tired, concentration started to lack and we didn't capitalize on many of the chances we had," coach Anderson said. "Credit to them (Lewiston), they're a group that sticks together and works hard for each other. If you let a team like that stick together, you're in hairy situations like we were today. Happy with the result, but today's a day where you see a lot of things you need to work on, so you're excited to get back on the practice field."
Sandpoint (7-3-2) hosts Coeur d'Alene on Tuesday.

PRIEST RIVER — The host Spartans and visiting Bulldogs settled for a draw in an Intermountain League match held Saturday at Priest River High.
Priest River High head coach Ryan Carruth noted that junior Baylor White, senior Carter Cook, and senior Ryan Bell all had great performances on the back line and that senior midfielder Nathan Stifel and senior forward Cameron Howell showed signs of greatness.
"Grangeville is a tough team who brings a lot of energy and we had to absorb a lot of that in the first half," coach Carruth said. "After a slow start, we were able to match the physicality of the game, but never got any rhythm going forward."
Priest River (4-5-1) travels to Timberlake on Thursday.
GIRLS SOCCER

LEWISTON — The visiting Lady Bulldogs fell behind 2-0 at halftime and the host Lady Bengals were able to notch a two-goal Inland Empire League win on Saturday at Lewiston High.
Junior Elia Howard scored a goal assisted by junior Ava Glahe to get Sandpoint on the board.
"We had a good halftime talk about matching physicality and changing formation," Sandpoint High head coach Alan Brinkmeier said. "The girls did much better (in the second half); we created a few more chances that just went wide. It's something that we can build off of."
Senior goalkeeper Lilliana Brinkmeier had three saves for Sandpoint, which was limited to just three shots on goal.
Sandpoint (5-5-1) travels to Coeur d'Alene on Tuesday.
