PREP SWIMMING: Sandpoint boys break 25-year standing 200 free relay record

SWIMMING

BOISE — Juniors Kai Leavitt, McCoy Jensen and Kale Wright, combined with freshman Lou Foust, set a new Brave-Knights Invitational record and broke a 1999 Sandpoint High record, which head coach Greg Jackson was a part of, by swimming to a 200-yard freestyle relay time of 1:33.18 on Saturday at the Idaho Central Aquatic Center.

The four also swam to a second place finish in the 400 free relay, clocking a time of 3:30.52. Jensen swam to fifth in the 100 breast (1:08.64), Wright to fifth in the 200 free (1:59.51) and sixth in the 100 free (51.82) and Foust to seventh in 100 back (1:01.76) for the Bulldogs, who placed fourth out of 16 scoring teams.

For the girls, seniors Ryleigh Bamer and Ava de Leeuw, junior Mia Driggs, and sophomore Reina Montecchi finished first and broke a meet record in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:46.36.

The four also swam to a second place finish in the 400 free relay, clocking a time of 3:55.73. de Leeuw swam to third in the 500 free (5:29.95) and fourth in the 200 free (2:03.65), Bamer to fifth in the 100 fly (1:05.09), and Montecchi to fourth in the 50 free (26.14) and fifth in the 100 free (57.91) for the Lady Bulldogs, which finished fourth out of 14 scoring teams.

"The team is focused and ready to show everyone they mean business," coach Jackson said. "They showed up and let their performances speak for themselves. A lot of what we've worked on started paying off this weekend."

Sandpoint will be back in action at the Kroc Center on Oct.12.
