Sept. 29, 1974 – NEWS FROM HOPE
Grandma Butler still collects furniture, electric appliances, dishes, clothing or anything still usable, for St. Vincent de Paul. She reminds you of the collecting of MJB coffee lids, metal tops of coffee cans as well as the paper label wrapped around the MJB Instant coffee jars. The collecting of tops from the 16, 48 and 100 size MJB Tea Bag cartons continues. Groups benefited are: Hope Civic Club, Hope-Oden P.T.O., Hope AARP, Community Church, Island View Chapel and Methodist Church.

GIRL SCOUTS HAD BICYCLE JAUNT
Girl Scout Troop 423 sponsored a bicycle trip Sept. 10. Participating were: Troop 76, Mary Ann Shadel, Becky Stevens, Linda Wilkinson, Susan Wilkinson, Peggy Wilkinson, Cherry Fitzpatrick, Laura Wing and Roxane Conrad; Troop 542, Ivy Metz; Troop 246, Lynette Sutton, Carlin Coulter, and Paula Syth; hostess Troop 423, Brenda Ingraham, Janet Ingraham, Monica Tillberg, Teresa Thompson, Verna Rumsey, Lori Rumsey, Kay Madsen and guest Janet Dexter. Adults were Evelyn Rumsey, Mary Stevens, Ann Wilkinson and Lou Madsen.

KARLA SHEFFLER HAS CHENEY JOB
An Eastern Washington State College student, Karla C. Sheffler, has begun her fall quarter student teaching at Salnave Elementary School, Cheney. Mrs. Sheffler, a SHS graduate and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Stilwell, Seeley Lake, Mont., is a senior majoring in physical education at EWSC.

Sept. 29, 1949 – CELEBRATES 3RD BIRTHDAY
Miss Sharon Lee Shadel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Shadel, celebrated her third birthday last week with a party at her home, receiving many nice gifts. Birthday cake and ice cream were served to the following: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Shadel, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wood, Mr. and Mrs. Leigh Shadel and Marcia, Mr. and Mrs. Don Hand and Judy and Patty.

VETERINARIAN OPENS OFFICE
Dr. J.H. Goforth, veterinarian, who has been here for the past four months associated with Dr. L.F. Eakin, announced that beginning Oct. 1, he is opening his own office at his residence at 613 Lakeview boulevard. Born and reared in Oklahoma near Tulsa, Dr. Goforth completed his course in veterinary medicine at Kansas State college last June. He came here with his wife immediately after graduation.

DOUGLAS MORAN WINS CITY FIRE JOB
Douglas Moran was the successful applicant of the three young men who had passed physical examinations prior to appearing before the city civil service board Monday for further examination of their qualifications for a city fire position. Moran, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mert Moran, saw active duty with the navy during the war. He takes over his new duties on the city fire department force Oct. 1.
