Evan 'Chip' Walt Roos, 76

Our beloved friend, husband, former Bonner County sheriff, and father, Evan “Chip” Roos, passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday, March 30, 2025.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2025, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center. Interment will take place at 1 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2025, in Pack River Cemetery.

Chip served as sheriff of Bonner County from 1989 to 2000, making a lasting mark on our community and law enforcement history. Elected in 1988 and re-elected in both 1992 and 1996, he became the first Bonner County sheriff in 20 years to serve more than one term. That speaks volumes about the trust and respect he earned.

Known for his straight-talking, no-nonsense style, Sheriff Roos was a true public servant who cared deeply for his community. Under his leadership, important programs like D.A.R.E. and the K-9 unit were launched. He also started a juvenile detention center and youth training initiatives for search-and-rescue and law enforcement, investing in the future of Bonner County.

His impact was profound, and his legacy will continue to ripple through the lives he touched. Chip, thank you for your service and dedication. You will be deeply missed.

Chip is survived by his wife, Anne; his two sons, Matt and Jim; his older sister, LaRue; and his grandchildren.
