PREP ROUNDUP: Priest River’s Coleman golfs to medalist honors at Kellogg Invitational
GOLF
KELLOGG — Priest River High senior Palmer Coleman carded an impressive 1-under-par 71 to capture medalist honors at the Kellogg Invitational held Monday at the Pinehurst Golf Course.
Coleman's score was 10 strokes ahead of second place and paced Priest River to a second-place team finish out of five scoring teams. Nate Fegert shot a 94, Braxton Knaack a 97 to round out the Spartans' sub-100 finishes.
On the girls side, senior Paityn Yount finished fifth with a score of 115 playing as an individual for the Lady Spartans. Bonners Ferry High sophomore Callie Bateman led the Lady Badgers to the team title after carding a score of 99, good enough for medalist honors.
Priest River will head to an invitational hosted by Bonners Ferry on Thursday at the Mirror Lake Golf Course.

COEUR d'ALENE — Junior Mason Little was for 4-for-4 at the plate with three singles, a double and three RBI in the nightcap as the visiting Bulldogs split an Inland Empire League twinbill with the Timberwolves on Tuesday at Lake City High.
Sandpoint spread their eight runs scored across four innings in game two's two-run win. Little and fellow junior Parker Reichart both hit RBI singles in the first inning to get the scoring started. Little then roped a two-run double to deep left field in the third that scored junior Soren Caprio and junior Dallen Williams, who both singled earlier in the inning, to help the Bulldogs build a 4-2 lead.
Sandpoint then put up one run in the fourth, three in the fifth thanks to a sacrifice fly from sophomore Carson Resso and a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Jack Schriber, and the bullpen staved off Lake City late to capture the win — the Bulldogs' first win over the Timberwolves since a 9-8 win in 2021.
Senior Jayden Kuprienko got the nod and was credited with the win on the mound, striking out three batters over 2.2 innings of work. In relief, Little struck out three batters of his own over 3.1 innings and junior Sage Medeiros gave up just two hits in a clean 1.2 innings to pick up the save.
In the opener, the Bulldogs tallied eight runs as well, but the Timberwolves used a 9-run rally between the third and fourth innings to pull away. Sandpoint, however, did put up a 5-spot in the third inning, scoring on five straight at-bats. Caprio and Little both smashed RBI doubles to start and end the rally while junior Parker Reichart and senior Drew Lehman, who was a combined 4-for-8 on the day, both knocked RBI singles.
In the sixth, trailing 10-6, junior Coleman Inge hit an RBI double to deep right field and sophomore Brennan Shaw, who struck out four batters over three innings in his start on the bump, a sacrifice fly to pull Sandpoint within two runs before Lake City held on for the victory.
Shaw, Caprio, and Williams all strung together multi-hit efforts in game one.
Sandpoint (5-9, 4-6), after a 14-game road trip to start the season, will finally play at War Memorial Field on Thursday when Lakeland comes to town for a 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader.
