Rae, Lucas ink college commitments
Full caption: Bonners Ferry High seniors Helene Rae, left, and Kimberly Lucas, right, recently committed to continue their sports careers at the next level. Rae committed the College of Idaho (NAIA) in Caldwell for track & field while Lucas committed to the University of Maine at Fort Kent (USCAA) for volleyball. Rae is a three-time 3A (now 4A) state qualifier in the shotput and two-time state qualifier in the discus — garnering medals in all three shotput appearances (3rd in 2024, 2nd in 2023 and 4th in 2022) and one medal in the discus (4th in 2023). She currently holds personal bests of 41 feet 10.25 inches in the shotput and 116 feet 1 inch in the discus. Lucas, a 5 foot 6 inch opposite hitter, is a one-time 4A All-Intermountain League recipient, having received honors her senior year. She was a a three-year varsity player for the Lady Badgers and amassed a career 74 kills, 36 aces, 22 total blocks (nine solo, 13 assisted), 253 digs and 45 assists across 139 sets played.
