Lamanna smashes two school records in Pasco
PASCO, Wash. — And just like that, Priest River High senior Brayden Lamanna now holds the triple crown of school distance records.
At the Pasco Invite on Saturday, Lamanna, a school record holder in the 3,200-meter and 5,000-meter (XC) runs, broke the 1,600-meter run school record with a time of 4:27.68, over five seconds faster than Cameron York's school record of 4:32.99 set in 1991. The time put him in 13th out of a stacked 38-runner field.
Turns out, he wasn't done for the day after that.
Lamanna doubled back in the 3,200-meter run, placing seventh out of 34 and running to school record time of 9:35.67, over 11 seconds faster than his own record of 9:47.21 set earlier this season. Before this year, the record hadn't been broken since 1980 when Mark Jones ran a time of 9:51.6.
Howard leads Lady Bulldogs to Lake Pend Oreille team title
SANDPOINT — Elia Howard showed out in the first ever invitational at the newly renovated David R. Demers Track & Field Complex, the Lake Pend Oreille Invitational, held Saturday at Sandpoint High.
A junior, Howard won the 100-meter (12.82 seconds) and 200-meter dashes (26.96 seconds) and the long jump (14 feet, 8 inches) to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a team title, edging out Bonners Ferry by 17 points.
Junior Jetta Thaete won the javelin, launching a new personal best mark of 126 feet even, over 7 1/2 feet better than her school record throw set earlier this season at the Lewiston Invite. Sophomore Vivian Haag grabbed a gold in the triple jump, springing to a season-best mark of 30 feet, 6 inches. Senior Noah Roark cleared a new personal best of 5 foot even in the high jump and placed first.
For the Lady Spartans, sophomore Ashlyn Korff, senior Lizzie McCracken, sophomore Jasmine Stark, and senior Kylee Swoboda took home gold in the 4x400 relay (4:38.81). McCracken added a third-place finish in the 800-meter run, running to a new personal best time of 2:31.79, which ranks as No. 4 all-time in school history.
Clark Fork High senior Olivia Yetter, a Lewis-Clark State College commit, was second in the 300 hurdles (55.23 seconds) and was amongst the top five in two other events.
On the boys side, junior Maverick Gomez won the 100-meter (11.10 seconds) and the 200-meter dashes (22.84 seconds) with new personal best times and was a part of the winning 4x100 relay with junior Isaac Schmit, senior Van Lee and junior Kamren Ziarnick that ran to a No. 3 all-time school best of 43.80 seconds.
Lee, Gomez, Schmit and sophomore Trey Blumenberg also won the 4x200 relay, running to the No. 2 all-time school best of 1:31.51.
Lee also won the pole vault (12 feet, 6inches), clearing a new personal best while sophomore Shooter Jones clinched a gold in the triple jump (40 feet, 10.75 inches) with a new personal best leap to help the Bulldogs to a second-place team finish, just shy of Mt. Spokane.
For the Spartans, junior Niki Porinchok won the discus for the fourth time in four meets with a mark of 146 feet, 1 inch.
Clark Fork High junior Westin Caven won the 300-meter hurdles for the Wampus Cats in a new personal best time of 43.70 seconds.
