Johnnie Allen Lawson, 73, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2025, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Private family services have been held.
Johnnie was born Dec. 30, 1951, in Eugene, Ore., to William and Bertha Lawson. He grew up and attended school in Hope, Idaho, and Sandpoint High School. Johnnie served his country in the United States Army and also served overseas in Korea.
He earned an arts and literature degree. Johnnie was married to Donna Allen for 14 years and they had two children.
Johnnie later married Sue Bullock in Reno, Nev. They made their home in Sandpoint where Johnnie enjoyed playing music in Bert’s Place, with the Pack River Band and the stage name “Bent Whiskers.” Johnnie was also a familiar face at the post office where he was a mail carrier and took care of the maintenance. He settled in Coeur d’Alene in 2022.
Johnnie was a member of the Eagles and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He loved to play music and write songs for his friends. He also enjoyed fishing.
Johnnie is survived by his wife, Sue Lawson of Coeur d’Alene; one son, Christopher Lawson of Priest River; one daughter, Angela (Rick) Demmig of Post Falls; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Stuart (Billie) Lawson of Sandpoint; and one sister, Gypsy (Scott) Ackerman of Willamina, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Steve Lawson and Don Walline; one sister, Debora Swan; and one grandson.
