MOSCOW — Sophmore Brennan Shaw went a combined 3-for-7 with three singles and an RBI as the visiting Bulldogs were upended by the Bears in a 5A Inland Empire League twinbill — their regular season and league finale — on Tuesday at Moscow High.

Senior Drew Lehman hit an RBI single to right to open up game one, but the Bulldogs scattered just three hits through the next six innings as the Bears scored at least one run in every frame to capture the victory.

In the nightcap, Shaw recorded Sandpoint's lone multi-hit effort of the series, including an RBI single in the fourth. Junior Mason Little added an RBI single in the third, junior Dallen Williams a sacrifice fly in the fifth before Moscow, which has now won the regular season 5A IEL title for the second straight year, rallied to the run rule win.

Lehman added a double in game two for No. 2 Sandpoint (12-12, 9-9), which will host No. 3 Lewiston (10-13) in a 5A District 1-2 loser-out game on Tuesday, April 29 at War Memorial Field.

Rickert wins ninth straight perfect match

Sandpoint 6, Lake City 6

COEUR d'ALENE — Sandpoint girls' doubles pairs Aubrey Knowles and Amelia Poulson and Hannah Fisher and Lily Evans both won in straight sets as the visiting Bulldogs swept the category and settled for a tie with the Timberwolves on Tuesday at Lake City High.

"Both teams were in total control throughout," Sandpoint High head coach Kent Anderson said of his girls' doubles squads. "Amelia and Aubrey were attacking the net with precision and their serves were on target. Lily and Hannah were untouchable. Great ball movement with both volleys, groundstrokes and strong serves."

Jacob Dawson and Nathan Duke clinched straight sets wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 boys' singles positions, respectively, while Caden Martz and Fisher Dail picked up a straight sets win in the No. 2 boys' doubles spot.

"Jacob played the best first set of his life," coach Anderson said. "Incredible patience along with great power. His second set was a war and he was able to prevail. Fisher and Caden get better every day. They are so tough and seem to enjoy challenging their opponents' strengths and beating them at it."

Pepper Rickert added a win at No. 1 girls' singles, her ninth straight 6-0, 6-0 perfect match, for Sandpoint (7-0-2), which will compete Friday and Saturday at the Inland Empire Tournament in Spokane — the largest high school tennis tournament in the nation.

Coach Anderson said everyone is gearing up for districts and the competition has been fierce as of late.

"We lost all three third set tie-breakers after big leads in all of them," coach Anderson said. "The saying is, 'you either win or you learn. You never lose'. We’ll be tough as nails at our district championship."
