LPOIC fishing derby begins April 26
Got an itch to fish?
Residents will take to the lake this weekend for the Lake Pend Oreille Idaho Club Spring Fishing Derby, set to run April 26-May 4.
Local anglers will compete in adult and youth divisions for over $20,000 in total prizes, including a $5,000 award for first place in the adult rainbow trout category.
All fish must be evaluated at an official weigh station. Only fish caught in Lake Pend Oreille are eligible; fish caught in the lake’s tributaries don’t qualify for the contest.
The derby will end at 4 p.m. May 4. LPOIC encourages catch and release for all rainbow trout to protect the abundance of the species in Lake Pend Oreille.
In LPOIC’s fall 2024 derby, Jeff Hoagland won the adult rainbow trout division with a 26.3-pound fish he caught and released in November. Dale Greene won the mackinaw division with a 12.4-pound catch.
