PREP ROUNDUP: Bonners Ferry races past Priest River to remain undefeated

PRIEST RIVER — Senior Asher Williams scored 29 points, 23 in the first half, senior Thomas Bateman added 28 and hauled in 10 rebounds for a double-double and the visiting Badgers got out in transition early and often in a 48-point non-league win over the Spartans on Wednesday.
Senior Brody Rice contributed 10 points and five assists, sophomore Peyton Hinthorn six points and five assists, and junior Sulay Abubakari nailed a pair of 3-pointers for Bonners Ferry, which led 47-24 at halftime and used a 20-3 scoring advantage in the third quarter to put things out of reach.
Senior Palmer Coleman finished with 15 points and three assists while senior Brock Kreager hit a pair of triples for Priest River, which was outrebounded 33-9 in the contest.
"We knew they were a good team and we wanted to play a tough game like that to give us a good challenge," Priest River High head coach Kevin Wylie said. "We wanted to gain as much experience as we could. Even though the deficit was pretty big, I thought our guys did a good job tonight executing some stuff that we wanted to work on. The guys never want to lose by that much, but we just got so much experience out of this game."
Bonners Ferry (19-0, 1-0), which has now captured their 36th straight win, travels to Lake City, ranked No. 4 in 6A, on Monday. Priest River (12-4, 5-1) will travel to Kellogg on Saturday, Feb. 15, for an important 3A Central Idaho League matchup.

KELLOGG — Senior Desi Humphrey scored a game-high 14 points, all in the second half, and had three steals as the visiting Lady Spartans overcame some early shooting troubles to take home a 3A Central Idaho League victory over the Lady Wildcats in their regular season finale on Wednesday.
Senior Paityn Yount collected 11 points, including two 3-pointers, and senior Lizzie McCracken had seven points and three steals for Priest River, which outscored Kellogg 28-10 in the second half after trailing 15-6 at intermission.
Freshman McKinley Burgess-Duquette pulled down eight boards in the win.
Priest River and Kellogg were both 4-3 in league play entering the matchup, so with the win, the Lady Spartans officially finish second in the CIL and gain home court advantage for the first round of the district tournament.
No. 2 Priest River (13-6, 5-3) will host No. 3 Kellogg on Saturday.
