The border wall or foreign aid?
By using a medical analogy, is it better to treat the symptom or the cause? Are we after curative measures (problems) or palliative measures (symptoms)? What can the USA do best for the border or immigrant issues?
Let’s go back to the end of World War II when Japan and Germany were destroyed. The USA invested in those countries in part, based on our generosity, but also to revive our export markets and turn those countries to a democracy and economic success. [Countries ruined (symptom) and how to reconstruct (problem)]. Until recently (Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine) much of our military and non-military aid has gone to the Middle East and North Africa regions (Israel and Egypt).
To help cure the border issues:
1. Invest in Central and South America countries' economies like we did for Germany and Japan after World War II.
2. Help Mexico address the drug, human smuggling, asylum and refugee issues they face.
3. Pass our own immigration reform.
4. Don’t bully our neighbors.
These measures will help address the border cure rather than the current palliative band-aid on our border.
