Birthright citizenship should be abolished

| February 11, 2025 1:00 AM

When I was growing up, we usually had a Mexican living in our guesthouse in Tucson. Most of them were women attending junior college as well as helping my mom with the seven kids. They were great friends for us, as we learned Spanish and they practiced English.

I went to Nogales, on the border at age 22 and learned a business transporting fresh produce all winter to eastern and Canadian markets. I got to know so many Mexicans I would call true friends down there. Since then, we have been a part of two homes in Sonora and traveled Baja extensively.

Somewhere along the line the number of Mexicans crossing illegally just went through the roof the last 15 years. Shame on Congress for not passing laws to provide them with better legal options to acquire work permits or become citizens.
