A BAD LANDING
A serious case of pilot error resulted in the death of a bald eagle Monday. The eagle was floating above Lake Pend Oreille looking for a bite to eat. With his (or her) sharp eyes, a lone coot was spotted drifting unaware in the water. The eagle swooped down and captured the coot in its claws, then pulled up with its prey to make to a nearby mountaintop for a little breakfast. Unfortunately for the eagle, it ran right in to a power line above Fish Hatchery Road. The ensuing collision pretty well fried the eagle, and also caused a momentary power outage for residents in the area.
